The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) does not administer any teacher loan forgiveness programs. However, GaDOE reports to the U.S. Department of Education a list of schools eligible for inclusion in the Teacher Cancellation Low Income (TCLI) directory. To learn more about loan forgiveness options, contact your loan provider or review the information available on the U.S. Department of Education Federal Student Aid website.
TCLI Reporting Timeline
Eligibility for the TCLI directory is based on data collected by GaDOE in October of each school year and the list is submitted to the U.S. Department of Education in mid to late November (ex: the list for the 2025-26 school year is submitted in November of 2025).
School TCLI Eligibility Details
Eligibility for schools and programs is determined annually, and the determination of the current year does not impact prior years.
Eligible schools are those with a free or reduced lunch percentage of 30.0000000001% or higher. Title I status is not considered when determining a school’s eligibility. Eligibility for an educational program within a school district is based on the district’s free or reduced lunch percentage (30.0000000001% or higher).
Annual eligibility determinations are based on the following data:
- For the 2020-21 school year and all previous years, eligibility was based on data from the prior year.
- For the 2021-22 school year, eligibility was based on data from 2019-20 due to interruptions in FRL reporting due to COVID-19.
- Beginning in 2022-23, eligibility is based on data from that school year (ex: 2022-23 utilizes data from 2022-23).
Requesting a Review of a School or Program
Complete the following steps to determine whether a school or program has been incorrectly omitted from the TCLI Directory. These steps should be followed for each year of interest.
- Review the TCLI Directory to determine whether the school or program is included currently. Select ‘Georgia’ from the drop down and select the appropriate year. It is recommended that the two optional fields be left blank, as any character mismatch between the official name submitted by GaDOE and that entered into the form will result in a school or program to be filtered out of the results. Navigate through the displayed list on the website or download the .xls file and search the results.
- If the school or program is included in the directory, no further action is required to make the school or program eligible. If the school or program is not listed, review the TCLI Eligibility dashboard on Georgia Insights (available March 2026) to determine the free or reduced lunch percentage. If the percentage is lower than 30.0000000001, the school or program is not eligible for inclusion in the TCLI Directory. If the school or program is eligible, but is not included in the directory, complete Step 3.
- Download the Teacher Cancellation Low Income School and Program Review Request template. Complete all required information requested in the form. Any omissions may cause delays in the processing of the review request.
- To submit the form, visit the Data Requests & Contact page of this site. Scroll down and expand the contact form. Select the Category: ‘Federal Reporting’, Subcategory: ‘Teacher Cancellation Low Income’. Complete the rest of the form and attach the Teacher Cancellation Low Income School and Program Review document completed in Step 3. Click ‘Submit’.
- Allow for up to five business days for the GaDOE team to complete the review of your request. Responses will be sent via email informing you of the outcome of the review.
