The United States Census Bureau administers the School District Review Program (SDRP). The program enables state officials to review annually the school district information used by the Census Bureau, including district boundaries, local education agency codes, and other relevant data.
What Is the Purpose of the SDRP?
The data collected and verified through SDRP, along with other census population data, survey data, current population estimates, federal tax information, and tabulations of administrative records data, are utilized in the Census Bureau to estimate the number of children aged 5 through 17 in families in poverty within each school district.
Data from the SDPR are essential for:
- calculating Census estimates for Title I federal funding provided to state and local education agencies
- developing estimates of social, economic, demographic, and housing conditions from the American Community Survey (ACS)
- providing geographic information to support location-based research efforts
What Is the Role of the Georgia Department of Education?
Each year, GaDOE staff work with representatives from each local education agency to ensure the accuracy of district boundaries reported to the Census. GaDOE staff review the geographic boundaries within the SDRP online platform, identify any potential errors or issues to be resolved, and ensure the resolution of these issues.
