July 24, 2025 – Principals

We have two additional updates for you this week – see below. Click here for the District Deadlines and To-Dos Dashboard.

Georgia Early Literacy and Dyslexia Principal Surveys (K-3)

The Georgia Early Literacy and Dyslexia Act requires GaDOE to develop a report regarding implementation of Georgia’s literacy legislation. We need a school leader (principal or assistant principal) from each elementary school that serves students in grades K-3 to complete a short survey. While we only need one survey completed per school, we encourage you to collaborate with members of your team to complete the survey. Please complete the survey by August 8.

Georgia Early Literacy and Dyslexia Reporting

There are four areas of the Georgia Early Literacy and Dyslexia Act reporting that must be completed by August 1, 2025 in the MyGaDOE Portal. Schools that serve K-3rd grade students must report high-quality instructional materials, professional learning, information on students with characteristics of dyslexia, and certification that the Dyslexia Handbook has been distributed by electronic means to all personnel. This year’s reporting requires school-level reporting (principal), with districts (superintendents and curriculum directors) having editing and approval rights to all school-submitted data. Professional learning data and characteristics of dyslexia data represent information from the 2024-25 school year. Please see the user guides linked below for detailed instructions.

BOOST Grant Now Open

The BOOST (Building Opportunities in Out-of-School Time) Grant, in partnership with the Georgia Statewide Afterschool Network, awards one-year funding to community organizations that operate comprehensive out-of-school-time (OST) programming year-round, during the summer months, or after school during the academic year. These must be evidence-based programs that support student learning and address nonacademic challenges.

GOLD Grant Now Open

The Georgia Outdoor Learning Demonstration (GOLD) Grant, offered in collaboration with the Environmental Education Alliance, is intended to support the launch, revitalization, or expansion of outdoor learning opportunities for public school students in all parts of the state. Through an appropriation from the Georgia General Assembly, a minimum of 18 grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 per recipient will be awarded. Georgia LEAs and nonprofit organizations providing outdoor learning opportunities to children are eligible to apply.
